๐ขTakeoff & Counting
- Tap to place, tally as you go. Pick an item from your catalog and place it on the plan. The count updates live, per page and across the project.
- Per-placement multipliers. One marker can stand for any quantity, so a homerun of six doesn't need six clicks.
- Revision statuses. Flag a placement as Existing, Relocated, or Deleted. All are pulled out of your new-work totals and reported as their own sections.
- Dynamic auto-numbering labels. Label tokens number your devices for you as you place them โ project-wide, per page, or by sheet, with arithmetic offsets like DEV #{IGC}{-1}.
- Up to six labels per item. Text in any of six positions around the marker, overridable on individual placements.
- Four marker shapes. Circular, rectangular, square, and hexagon, each with its own color from the item's type.
- Linked items. An item can automatically pull in the accessories and hardware that always go with it โ never drawn, always counted.
- Multi-select and rubber-band select. Drag a box around a group, then move, restatus, or delete them together.
- Drag-to-copy and constrained drags. Hold to duplicate while dragging; constrain to horizontal or vertical for clean rows.
- Visibility control. Hide item types individually, or toggle every label, annotation, or coverage area at once as the sheet fills up.
- Marker size and opacity. Project-wide sliders so markers stay readable against a busy background.
๐กCoverage Areas
- Real-world coverage zones. Attach a to-scale coverage area to any catalog item โ sprinkler heads, cameras, detectors, access points, speakers.
- Circular and sector shapes. Set a real-world radius and an angle; 360ยฐ gives a full circle, anything less gives you a directional cone.
- Rectangular shapes. Real-world width and height with a nine-way pivot point, so the zone sits where the device actually throws.
- Multiple named zones per item. Primary and secondary coverage on the same device, each colorable independently.
- Per-placement rotation. Aim each individual device without touching the catalog definition.
- Coverage masks. Draw a polygon to clip a coverage area out of irregular rooms, and edit it vertex by vertex.
- Draggable coverage labels. Move the label off the geometry when zones overlap.
๐Search & Symbol Detection
- Visual symbol search. Draw a box around one symbol and mTally finds every visually similar symbol on the page โ or across the entire drawing set.
- Batch assign to an item. Check the matches you want, pick a catalog item, and mTally places it at every one of them in a single action.
- Text recognition on matches. Each match is read for text so you can filter results down to the specific tag or device number you're after.
- Knows what's already counted. Results show the part number of any item already placed nearby, so you don't double-count.
- Sub-search refinement. Layer another query on top of your results to narrow a broad match down.
- Background all-pages search. The current page comes back first while the rest of the set processes, with live progress.
- Confidence selection. Select all, deselect all, or select only the high-confidence matches.
- PDF text search. Standard find across the drawing's text layer, current page or all pages, with highlighted results and context snippets.
๐Measurement & Scale
- Linear measurement. Trace conduit runs, wall lengths, and pipe routes and read them in real-world units.
- Area measurement. Outline a rectangular region for square footage, reported with its width and height.
- Seventeen scale presets. Imperial from 1"=1'-0" down to 1/16"=1'-0", and metric from 1:1 to 1:500 โ filtered to your locale automatically.
- Reference-line calibration. No printed scale? Draw a line over a known dimension and type in what it really measures.
- Apply scale to all pages. Set it once for a consistently plotted set, or per sheet when they differ.
- Paper size detection. Letter, Legal, Tabloid, Arch C/D/E, A3, and A4 recognized automatically, portrait or landscape.
- Measurement types. Reusable named types with their own color and line style, optionally tied to a catalog item.
- Thirteen colors, six line styles. Solid, dashed, dotted, dash-dot, long dash, and short dash.
- Chained measurements. Snap each new measurement to the last endpoint to walk a continuous run.
- Units your way. Feet and inches, decimal inches, meters, or centimeters.
- Per-measurement multipliers and labels. Multiply a typical run, override the label text, or hide it entirely.
- Running totals sidebar. Linear and area totals per type, updating as you measure.
โ๏ธMarkup & Annotations
- Revision clouds. Scalloped clouds with optional numbered delta badges, resizable, with independent cloud, text, background, and delta colors.
- Text boxes. Clean rounded boxes with full control over font size and horizontal and vertical alignment.
- Arrows that stay attached. Anchor an arrow to a placement or a cloud and it follows when that object moves.
- Callouts. A text box with a leader line, auto-sized or fixed, attachable to any item on the sheet.
- Polylines. Multi-vertex open or closed shapes with your own color, line width, and dash style.
- Freehand ink. Pen, highlighter, and eraser with adjustable color and stroke width โ with the native tool picker and Apple Pencil on iPad.
- Mixed multi-select. Select clouds, arrows, callouts, and placements together, then move or delete them as one group.
- Copy and paste across pages. Copy one annotation type or paste everything at once onto another sheet.
- Hide all annotations. One shortcut to see the clean drawing underneath.
๐ท๏ธStamps
- Your own stamp library. Build stamps from a PDF or an image file, with the aspect ratio preserved.
- Approved and Denied included. Two stamps ready to go on first launch.
- Drag to size, resize by corner. Place it exactly where and how big you need it.
- Stamp a whole set at once. Current page, all pages, or a custom range like 1,3,5-10 โ and the placements stay linked as a group.
- Shared across projects. The library is global, so a stamp you build once is on every job.
๐Digital Signatures
- Real cryptographic signing. mTally applies a genuine PKCS#7 digital signature to the exported PDF โ not an image of a signature pasted on top.
- PKCS#12 certificate import. Bring your own .p12 or .pfx document-signing certificate.
- Certificates stored in the Keychain. Held securely and synced to your other devices through iCloud Keychain.
- Automatic certificate chain fetch. mTally retrieves the issuing CA's intermediate certificate from the authority listed on your certificate, so the signature validates in Adobe Acrobat.
- Expiry tracking. The signer name and expiration date are read from the certificate and expired certificates are flagged before you rely on them.
- Signature templates. Name, date, and time tokens fill themselves in at placement, so the block is always current.
- Image placement. Put your signature graphic left, right, above, or below the text block.
- Sign a page, a range, or the set. Place on the current page, all pages, or a custom range, with size and position applied consistently across them.
๐Legends & Revision Tables
- Page legend. A table of item counts for the sheet you're on, building itself as you place.
- Project legend. The same thing aggregated across every page, honoring page multipliers.
- Linked items roll in. Accessories counted through linked items appear in the legend totals.
- Measurement totals included. Linear and area totals per measurement type, formatted in your project units.
- Existing, relocated, and deleted excluded. The legend reflects new work only.
- Place, drag, and resize. Drop the legend anywhere on the sheet and scale it to fit the title block.
- Automatic revision table. Every delta number used by your revision clouds, listed with its description, assembled for you.
- Both render into the export. What you place on the sheet is what lands in the PDF.
๐The Catalog
- One library, every project. Build your parts list once and it's on every job you open.
- Full item records. Part number, description, list price, cost, an image, and your own custom fields.
- Types for grouping and color. Organize the sidebar and drive marker and coverage colors from one place.
- Pack and order configuration. Give an item an order part number and a pack quantity, and choose whether remainders round up or split.
- CSV import and export. Bring in an existing parts list or take yours out, with per-row reporting on exactly what was added, updated, or failed.
- Favorites. Star the items you use constantly and pin them to the top, optionally across every project.
- Filter as you type. Search by part number or description.
๐Pages & Projects
- Multi-page drawing sets. Import a full PDF set; each sheet keeps its own counts, measurements, and markup.
- Import several PDFs into one project. Combine architectural, electrical, and mechanical sets in one place.
- Drag and drop import on the Mac. Drop a PDF straight onto the pages sidebar.
- Thumbnail sidebar with drag reordering. Put the sheets in the order you actually work them.
- Rename pages, one at a time or in batch.
- Page multipliers. A typical floor counted once can stand for all twelve โ and a multiplier of zero drops a sheet out of the totals entirely.
- Duplicate a page with all its markup.
- Custom starting page number. Match the numbering on the printed set.
- Project browser. Sort by name or date, rename, duplicate, and delete.
- Recent projects. Your last ten, synced across devices.
- Bundled sample project. A worked example on first launch so you can see the whole workflow before touching a real set.
- Autosave. Every change is written as you make it. There's nothing to remember to save.
๐คCounts & Exports
- Dedicated counts window. Per-page breakdowns and grand totals, in its own window on the Mac.
- Separate new, existing, relocated, and deleted sections. The as-built picture and the new-work number, side by side.
- Measurement totals alongside counts. Linear and area figures per type in the same report.
- Page filtering. Check off the sheets you want, and that selection carries through to the export.
- Four export formats. Detail CSV, Detail PDF, Summary CSV, and Summary PDF.
- Summary does the ordering math. Pack quantities and remainder handling turn your count into what you actually need to buy.
- Marked-up PDF export. Items, labels, coverage areas, masks, measurements, every annotation type, ink, stamps, signatures, legends, and revision tables, all rendered in.
- Three export modes. The entire document, the current page only, or every page as a separate file.
- Two quality levels. 150 DPI for email, 300 DPI for print.
- Progress reporting. Large sets export in the background without locking up the app.
โ๏ธiCloud & Storage
- Your choice of storage. Keep projects on the device or in iCloud Drive โ switchable at any time.
- Sync across every device. Start on the Mac, take the iPad to the field, check a count on your iPhone.
- Bulk migration. Move all your projects between local and iCloud storage in one pass, with progress and a per-project result.
- Catalog merges, not overwrites. Moving your catalog between locations combines it rather than clobbering it.
- Live upload status. See when a project has finished uploading before you close the laptop.
- Visible in Finder and Files. Your projects live in a folder you can actually see and back up.
- Settings and favorites follow you. Preferences, recent projects, and starred items sync automatically.
- Works offline. Everything except sync itself runs with no network at all.
โ๏ธWorkflow & Platform
- Undo everything, by name. The Edit menu tells you exactly what you're undoing โ "Move Item", "Rotate Coverage", "Reorder Pages", "Edit 5 Labels".
- Keyboard shortcuts throughout. Open, export, zoom, search, select all, toggle labels, coverage, and annotations, and step through pages.
- Built-in shortcut reference. A window listing every one of them.
- In-app user guide. Twenty-seven illustrated articles across nine sections, fully searchable.
- Contextual tips. Guidance where you need it, resettable when you want to see it again.
- Quick Actions palette. A floating window on the Mac with undo, select, and the visibility toggles always within reach.
- Mac multi-window. Counts, visual search, and quick actions each in their own window alongside the plan.
- Apple Pencil on iPad. Native tool picker and pressure-sensitive ink.
- Native on Apple Vision Pro. Spread the sheets out at full size in a space of their own.
- Universal purchase. One subscription covers Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro.
